There is a saying about home—how the deep roots of our past shape who we become and guide our next adventures. And it is also true that the further I roam, the sweeter it is to come home to Texas. I’m living proof of that sentiment. My name is Will M. Helixon, and though I’ve spent years serving in the U.S. Army, traveling and practicing law around the world, Texas is where it all began for me. It’s also where I’ve chosen to plant new roots for the Law Office of Will M. Helixon (LOWMH). Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce the opening of our Central Texas office in Harker Heights, near Fort Cavazos. This is far more than a strategic business decision for me—it’s a personal homecoming, a return to the place where I first discovered my passion for debate, honed my communication skills, and embarked on a journey that would ultimately lead me into the legal profession, trial advocacy, and military service.
A Homecoming That Matters
I spent most of my first thirty years right here in Texas, learning life lessons that shaped my belief in justice, fairness, and the power of a well-constructed argument. My passion for communication emerged early on. In high school, I poured myself into the debate team, discovering that clarity of thought and delivery could move mountains—and minds. Those competitive debates paved the way for me to qualify for the National Debate Tournament in college, not once, but twice. To this day, I view debate not merely as an academic competition but as a crucial skill for peeling back layers of assumption and revealing raw truth.
Texas also shaped me through its spirit of community and the vigor of its political life. As an undergraduate communication and public address major at the University of North Texas (UNT), I relished every moment. I worked tirelessly to become one of the school’s top communication scholars. Debate tournaments across the country helped me refine my strategies, and classroom speeches and extemporaneous speaking sharpened my delivery. That mix of academic rigor and real-world application sparked something deeper: a desire to serve and advocate for others.
During my time at UNT, I was elected president of the student government, giving me a voice in improving the academic and social environment for my peers. Around the same time, I had the chance to work on former Texas Governor Mark White’s re-election campaign. My role as his “aide-de-camp” gave me an unforgettable window into the Texas political process. It was also my first foray into the intersection of politics and law, helping me understand that leadership is not about authority alone but about advocating for change—locally, nationally, and globally.
Finding My Legal Calling
While I was always drawn to public speaking and debate, it was the law that truly captured my imagination. There’s something electrifying about criminal law and the high stakes that come with it—the knowledge that someone’s freedom, future, or reputation can hinge on the arguments we articulate in a courtroom. So, after working with Governor White, I dove headfirst into law school at South Texas College of Law, focusing on trial advocacy. My early years as a young lawyer in Houston refined my skills further: analyzing case details, dissecting witness statements, and piecing together narratives that fit the facts.
Yet, as a life-long Texan, my aspirations went beyond civilian courts—I had an unshakeable desire to wear the uniform and serve my country. The U.S. Army offered me exactly that. Over the next 26 years, I served on active duty and in the reserves as a judge advocate, eventually retiring as a lieutenant colonel. It was during those decades of military service that I prosecuted some of the most complex cases in the Army, served as a senior defense counsel on premeditated murder cases, mentored younger lawyers, and was even a Special Victim Prosecutor. I stood shoulder to shoulder with Soldiers, many of them from Texas, deployed to places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Honduras, and Bosnia. When I talk about standing up for Soldiers—about passionately defending the rights of service members—I’m not speaking from theory; I’m speaking from lived “personal” experience.
Birth of the Law Office of Will M. Helixon
After years in uniform, I wanted to take everything I’d learned—my trial advocacy experience, my commitment to service, and my unflinching desire to help Warriors in their most vulnerable moments—and funnel it all into something bigger. That was the genesis of the Law Office of Will M. Helixon (LOWMH). We first set up shop in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2015. We made it our mission to defend U.S. service members facing career-altering challenges, whether it involved investigations by command, law enforcement, or the Inspector General, adverse administrative actions like General Officer Memorandums of Reprimand (GOMORs), or full-blown courts-martial.
Our big break came in 2018 when we consolidated our practice in Germany, just as many service members faced trials and legal hurdles overseas. Within a year, I was battling my own demons, and with the help of my now-wife, I overcame alcohol’s grip on my life. It seemed like fate: I’d spent years stationed in Germany and deployed across the globe, so I knew the complex terrain. By 2023, I was two years sober, and we’d rebranded and opened offices in Washington and Colorado. We were in Tennessee, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and even supporting personnel in Poland and Eastern Europe a year later. No matter where we went, the same core mission remained: stand with America’s Warriors when nobody else would, and ensure they received the best possible defense—one forged from years of insider Army knowledge and civilian freedom.
Choosing a Military Law Firm: Reputation Matters

This integrity in communication and commitment to each client’s unique situation provides stability and reassurance in times of uncertainty. When clients describe their experience with LOWMH, they often speak of how the firm’s deep understanding of the military environment and relentless pursuit of justice gave them confidence when it mattered most.
Planting New Roots in Harker Heights
Now, in 2025, we’ve come full circle, planting ourselves right back in the Lone Star State. Our new office in Harker Heights is more than just a convenient location near Fort Cavazos, one of the largest military installations in the country. It’s also in close proximity to Joint Base San Antonio, which includes Fort Sam Houston, Brooke Army Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, and Randolph Air Force Base. From this vantage point, we can easily reach Dyess, Goodfellow, and Sheppard Air Force Bases as well. That’s a wide net we can cast, ensuring we stay accessible to those wearing the uniform.
I can’t overstate the significance of opening near Fort Cavazos. This installation stands as a pillar of U.S. Army strength, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel the pull of nostalgia every time I drive past a base gate in Texas. It reminds me of my early days in uniform: fresh out of law school, wide-eyed, and ready to tackle the Army’s biggest legal challenges. Now, here I am, many years later, returning as a seasoned attorney who’s walked the walk—still eager to tackle those big challenges, but with the hard-earned perspective of someone who has been in the thick of it.
Warrior Advocacy: What We Do
At LOWMH, we champion service members facing life-defining legal obstacles. Whether that means a GOMOR, a letter of reprimand, a separation board, or a trial by court-martial, we use every ounce of our combined century of military law experience to protect your rights and your future. Each lawyer on our team is a former judge advocate, armed with both the detailed knowledge of Army regulations and the freedom that comes with civilian practice. We don’t pull punches when it comes to dealing with prosecutors—especially those who consider themselves specialized or even “overzealous.” We know how to speak their language because we were once standing in their shoes.
Our calling doesn’t end with defending Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, and Guardians in uniform. We also take up the fight for veterans who have long since hung up their uniforms but still battle for their well-deserved VA benefits. Our clients are people who have marched through deserts, trudged across rugged terrain, and left families behind to secure our freedoms. We view each legal case like a personal mission—one that demands dedication, strategic planning, and steadfast courage.
Why This Expansion Matters
For me, opening our office in Harker Heights strikes a deeply personal chord. I see it as a homecoming tour, a symbolic return to the place where my passion for the law first took root. When I reflect on my early days debating in high school and college or campaigning beside Governor White, I marvel at how those experiences shaped the lawyer and leader I’ve become. Engaging with the hustle and bustle of Texas politics, analyzing legislation, and speaking before large crowds forced me to refine my rhetorical strategies—skills that serve me every single day in the courtroom.
It’s also important to me that our presence near Fort Cavazos reaffirms LOWMH’s “Warrior-first” commitment. We’re not some distant organization sitting behind a faceless corporate veneer. We’ve made the conscious decision to stand where our clients stand—right in the heat of things, close to the units and commands we represent. We’ve lived it, we’ve deployed alongside them, and we’ve faced similar pressures. That experience forms the backbone of our representation philosophy: unwavering loyalty, combat-tested advocacy, and an unbreakable resolve to preserve justice.
"Opening our Central Texas Office marks a powerful homecoming for the Law Office of Will M. Helixon and the Warrior Advocates™ of the Warrior Law Team™, reaffirming our tireless commitment to defending America’s Warriors and their families. This expansion brings us back to the very place where my passion for the law was forged—a devotion rooted in justice and service.
As retired, combat-deployed veterans, we fully understand the crushing weight of feeling targeted by your command. We’ve walked that path, and we’ve stood in those boots. That’s why we stand ready to fight for those who have fought for us. These heroes have sacrificed for our nation, and their courage demands not just respect but zealous, unrelenting advocacy. They deserve nothing less than our absolute best—and that’s precisely what we will deliver."

A Personal Promise
Anyone who’s ever put on a uniform understands the weight of the promise they make—to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. My personal promise to service members is to mirror that same level of dedication in defending their careers, families, and futures. Our new Harker Heights office is not just an additional location on a business card; it’s a living testament to the idea that every Soldier, Airman, Marine, Guardian, and Sailor deserves a defender who understands their background, their tribulations, and the unique nature of military culture.
I’ve been on both sides of the aisle—as a military prosecutor bringing charges and as a senior defense counsel fighting for Soldiers. I’ve worked at every level: from training brand-new lawyers and providing legal assistance at overseas installations to prosecuting serious crimes and defending the wrongfully accused. The sum total of those experiences reminds me daily that justice in the military is a delicate balance. My life’s work is dedicated to protecting that balance.

An Independent Defense Investigation: A Difference Maker.
An independent defense investigation is often the crucial difference-maker when facing Army misconduct allegations. Unlike the initial investigations that command pressures or incomplete narratives may influence, an independent investigation digs deep, scrutinizing every detail to uncover overlooked facts, procedural errors, or biases. This fresh perspective allows the defense to challenge flawed conclusions, expose weaknesses in the initial findings, and ensure that the client’s story is fully heard and fairly represented. For clients of the Law Office of Will M. Helixon, this rigorous approach has repeatedly transformed outcomes, turning uncertainty into relief and giving them back control over their future. An independent defense investigation is not just a strategy—it’s a lifeline for justice.
