Smith Barracks is a United States Army installation located in Baumholder, in the western German state of Rhineland-Palatinate and has been a key asset in the US military’s operations in Europe for many years. History of Smith Barracks:

Smith Barracks was established in 1951, right after the conclusion of World War II. The installation was named after Private First Class Stuart S. Smith, who was killed in action at the Battle of the Bulge in late 1944. In the early days of its existence, the barracks served as a training center for combat troops, and later became a Cold War training center for military units in Germany.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Smith Barracks was a vital part of the US Army in Europe during the Cold War.
