Early Life and Education
From Philosophy and Debate
to Law and Justice
Born and raised in Clarkesville, Georgia, Cadman R. Kiker III experienced the quintessential small-town American childhood that would shape his values of service, community, and justice. Growing up in a town of just 400 people, he enjoyed the freedom of a simpler time—leaving home at sunrise and returning at sunset, exploring the wilderness, playing in rivers, and developing the independence and resilience that would later serve him in military service. His father, a country lawyer who accepted payment in chickens, eggs, vegetables, and restaurant meals, instilled in him the profound understanding that legal work should serve people and ensure that one mistake or issue doesn’t define the rest of someone’s life.
Academically, Cadman excelled at Piedmont College, graduating cum laude in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Religion, earning recognition as the Most Valuable Debate Speaker for three consecutive years and receiving the Sigma Alpha Pi National Excellence in Leadership Award. He continued his academic excellence at Washington and Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia, where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 2014. During law school, he distinguished himself as a member of the Virginia Capital Case Clearing House, drafting pretrial motions for capital cases, and served as a Research Fellow for the 2014-15 academic year.
Military Career
A Distinguished Journey from Legal
Assistance to Special Operations Law
Commissioned as a Judge Advocate in October 2015, MAJ (R) Cadman R. Kiker III began his military legal career at Fort Hood, Texas, where he quickly established himself as an exceptional officer capable of handling the most complex legal challenges. His initial assignment as a Legal Assistance Attorney provided him with foundational experience in soldier advocacy, helping service members navigate both military and civilian legal issues while mastering everything from state law to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. Recognizing his potential, the Army quickly advanced him to the Administrative and Civil Law Department at III Corps, where he managed internal investigations at the three-star level, processed General Officer Memoranda of Reprimand, and advised commanders on critical ethical and operational issues.
His deployment to Operation Inherent Resolve marked the pinnacle of his operational legal experience, serving nine months first in Kuwait and then in Iraq as the targeting attorney for the entire operation. In this role, he advised general officers personally on deliberate targeting, created target lists, provided weaponeering guidance for strikes, and spent countless hours in the Joint Operations Center with target engagement authorities, making real-time legal determinations about strike authorizations in the complex battlespaces of Iraq and Syria. His expertise extended to psychological operations, civil affairs, and the complete spectrum of special operations.
From the Battlefield to the Courtroom
Mastering Military Justice
from Prosecution to Defense
Upon returning from combat operations in the Middle East, MAJ (R) Cadman R. Kiker III transitioned seamlessly from operational law to military justice, taking over as Trial Counsel for the 3rd Cavalry Regiment at Fort Hood—at the time, the busiest court-martial jurisdiction in the entire United States Army. In this demanding role, he managed hundreds of Article 15 proceedings and administrative separations while prosecuting more than two dozen courts-martial annually, developing an unparalleled understanding of military justice from the government’s perspective. This experience provided him with invaluable insights into prosecution strategies, evidence requirements, and the tactical approaches used by government counsel—knowledge that now serves him exceptionally well as a defense attorney.
His assignment in 2020 as Brigade Judge Advocate for the 528th Sustainment Brigade at Fort Bragg expanded his legal portfolio to encompass the full spectrum of legal operations supporting special operations logistics worldwide. In this capacity, he supervised soldiers and NCOs directly while managing everything from brigade-level justice issues to administrative investigations, ethics guidance, and rules of engagement for global special operations support. His comprehensive experience prosecuting cases, managing administrative actions, and advising commanders on disciplinary matters provides him with a unique dual perspective that allows him to anticipate government strategies while crafting innovative defense approaches for his clients.
